Driveways
Fence2Fence UK lays driveways in tarmac, block paving and imprinted concrete. Same team as Brick2Brick UK. Launched February 2026, though the team was laying driveways well before that.

What kinds of driveway are there?
The three the team lays:
- Tarmac: laid hot over a compacted base and rolled flat. Quick to lay, with a plain, dark finish.
- Block paving: small blocks laid on sand over a compacted base, often in a herringbone pattern. A damaged block can be lifted and replaced.
- Imprinted concrete: concrete laid as one slab and pressed with a pattern while wet, also known as concrete print.

Which driveways has the team laid?
Recent driveways:
- Driveways for two neighbouring houses, May 2024, one a broken concrete drive relaid in tarmac.
- A run of driveways in late 2024.
- A driveway for a relative of an earlier Brick2Brick UK client, by Fence2Fence UK, March 2026.
- A retaining wall and driveway put right after a rogue trader, September 2026, with block paving to follow when the customer is ready.

What happened on the rogue trader job?
A customer had been let down by another builder and left with a retaining wall and driveway in a poor state. The team came in to put it right. Because of the money the customer had already lost, the work stopped there for now, with the block paving to follow when the customer is ready. See the before and after.
This retaining wall and driveway had been left in a poor state after the customer was unfortunately let down by a rogue trader.

Do you need planning permission for a new driveway?
In a front garden, not if the driveway uses a permeable surface such as gravel, permeable block paving or porous asphalt, or if the rainwater runs to a lawn or border. A traditional surface that water cannot drain through needs planning permission if it covers more than 5 square metres. These rules apply to houses, not flats.
Driving over a pavement needs a dropped kerb, and the Planning Portal says it is illegal to drive over one without it. You apply to your local council for a dropped kerb.
What makes a driveway last?
What is underneath. The ground is dug out, a compacted sub-base laid and edges fixed so the surface cannot spread, with falls and drainage so water runs off rather than sitting on it. That is groundwork, which is why driveways sit naturally with Brick2Brick UK’s groundworks and retaining walls.

Questions people ask
Does Fence2Fence UK lay block paving?
Yes. Fence2Fence UK lays block paving, tarmac and imprinted concrete, and block paving is due on the rogue trader job when the customer is ready.
Do I need planning permission for a driveway?
Not for a permeable driveway, or one that drains to a lawn or border. A non-permeable surface over 5 square metres in a front garden needs planning permission. Check with your council.
Can Fence2Fence UK fix a driveway another builder left?
Yes, it is the same team. In September 2026 the Brick2Brick UK team put a retaining wall and driveway right after a rogue trader, with block paving to follow.
Do I need permission for a dropped kerb?
Yes. The Planning Portal says you apply to your local council, and that driving over a pavement without one is illegal.
